Ready

Start very low. Use left, right, and both to confirm stereo balance before you turn up volume.

You'll see a ball bounce - each hit should match a beep.

Left and right stereo

Put the headphones on at low volume, play Left, then Right, then Both. The left button should sound only from your left ear and the right button should sound only from your right ear.

If the channels feel reversed, turn the headphones around, reseat the cable, check audio-interface routing, or inspect balance controls in the operating system.

Balance, sweep, and phase

Use Both to check whether one side is quieter. Use the frequency sweep gently to listen for rattles, dropouts, or a weak frequency range.

The phase check helps catch hollow or strange stereo playback. Normal audio should sound centred; the out-of-phase part should sound thinner or wider.

Bluetooth and headset mode

Bluetooth headphones sometimes switch profiles when a microphone is active, and the first tone can be silent while the device wakes. Wait a moment, confirm the selected output device, and try again.

For meetings, test the output here and then choose the same headphones inside Zoom, Teams, Meet, Discord, or your recording app.

FAQ

How do I test left and right headphones?

Play Left, then Right, then Both at low volume. Left should come from the left ear only and Right should come from the right ear only.

Why is one headphone side quieter?

Check system balance, the cable or connector, Bluetooth battery level, headset orientation, and any app-specific output balance.

Can I test Bluetooth headphones online?

Yes. Choose the Bluetooth headphones in your operating system, then play the left and right tones. If the first tone is silent, wait a second and try again.

Is a headphone test safe?

Start quietly. Test tones are steady and can feel louder than normal speech or music.

Does the headphone test upload audio?

No. The tones are generated locally by your browser.
