Open Settings > Sound. Choose the expected input and speak while watching the level. Then choose the expected output and play a short test tone.
If the level or output test fails in system settings, fix that before troubleshooting the browser. The browser can only use the device Fedora exposes to it.
2. Reset the site permission
Press Start mic or Start camera on MicAndCam. If the browser asks, choose Allow. If it says blocked, use the permission icon beside the address bar, remove the block, reload, and try again.
For urgent calls, test in another browser as a quick comparison. If one browser works, the hardware and Fedora sound stack are probably fine.
3. Close camera and audio conflicts
Close meeting apps, recording apps, browser call tabs, and virtual camera tools. Then reload the page and test again.
If the camera preview works here but not in an app, choose the same camera inside the app. If audio works here but not in an app, choose the same input and output in the app settings.
Should I fix Fedora settings or browser settings first?
Check Fedora Sound settings first. If the system does not see the device or level, the browser cannot fix it. Then reset the website permission.
Why does Fedora show the device but the website says blocked?
The system can see the hardware while the browser still remembers a blocked permission for micandcam.com. Remove the site block and start the test again.
Is an online mic or webcam test safe and private?
It can be when the tool runs locally. MicAndCam analyzes microphone levels, camera preview, snapshots, and recordings in your browser and does not upload media. You can verify this with the live counter or your browser's Network panel.
