Watch the live counter. It stays at zero for media uploads while you run a mic, camera, or speaker check.
Verify it yourself. Open DevTools, choose Network, run a test, and look for uploads. In Chrome or Edge press Ctrl+Shift+I. In Firefox press Ctrl+Shift+E.

1. Check Windows privacy settings
Open Settings, then Privacy & security. Check Camera and Microphone separately. Turn on device access and app access, then make sure desktop apps can use the camera or microphone.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Zoom, Teams, Discord, and many recorders are treated as desktop apps. If desktop app access is off, the browser can look allowed but still fail.
Settings > Privacy & security > Camera > Camera access: On.
For both pages, also allow desktop apps.
2. Fix the browser permission
Return to micandcam.com and press the Start button again. If the browser asks, choose Allow. If it instantly says blocked, use the permission icon beside the address bar and allow camera or microphone access for this site.
If there is no prompt, the browser may be remembering a previous block. Remove the blocked site setting, reload the page, and start the test again.
3. Confirm the selected device
For a silent microphone, open Windows Settings > System > Sound > Input and speak while watching the input level. For a black camera, close other apps, check the privacy shutter, and choose another camera if one appears.
If MicAndCam works but a meeting app does not, choose the same input, camera, and speaker inside that app. The hardware is probably fine; the app has picked a different route.
Why does Windows still block my browser after I allowed the site?
Windows has its own camera and microphone privacy switches. The browser site permission cannot override a Windows-level block.
What should I do first if both mic and camera are blocked?
Check Windows Privacy & security first, because that can block both devices for desktop apps. Then reset the browser permission for micandcam.com.
Is an online mic or webcam test safe and private?
It can be when the tool runs locally. MicAndCam analyzes microphone levels, camera preview, snapshots, and recordings in your browser and does not upload media. You can verify this with the live counter or your browser's Network panel.
