Try a phone webcam if your laptop camera is grainy, too low, fixed in a bad angle, or poor in low light. A modern phone often has a better sensor and lens, but it also needs power, a mount, and a reliable connection.
Use the MicAndCam webcam test after the phone camera appears as a camera device. Check resolution, lighting, sharpness, and whether the preview is stable.
Keep the setup simple
Mount the phone near eye level, plug it into power for longer calls, and keep the rear camera clean. If your operating system or phone app exposes the phone as a webcam, select it in the MicAndCam camera picker after permission.
If the phone does not appear, restart the phone-webcam app or cable connection, then reopen the browser and meeting app.
Check the meeting app last
If the phone works in MicAndCam but not in Zoom, Teams, or Meet, choose the phone camera inside that app. Some apps remember the old laptop camera even after the phone camera becomes available.
Not always. A phone can improve image quality, but a stable mount, good light, and app compatibility matter just as much.
Is an online mic or webcam test safe and private?
It can be when the tool runs locally. MicAndCam analyzes microphone levels, camera preview, snapshots, and recordings in your browser and does not upload media. You can verify this with the live counter or your browser's Network panel.
