Record, play, adjust

A level meter proves the microphone is receiving sound, but playback is the real confidence check. Record one normal sentence, play it back, then adjust input gain, distance, or microphone choice until speech is clear.

If playback is too quiet, raise the system input level or move closer. If it crackles or distorts, lower the gain, move back, or turn off aggressive processing in your app.

What to listen for

Healthy speech should sound steady without harsh clipping, heavy background hiss, or sudden dropouts. Compare the clip after changing headset, laptop, USB, or Bluetooth microphones.

Use headphones for live monitoring. Playing microphone audio through speakers can feed back into the mic and create a loud loop.

Private by default

The recording is saved on this device. The audio player and download link use that local file; nothing is uploaded.

No account, upload, or server-side processing is used for the playback test.

FAQ

How do I test my mic playback online?

Start the mic, speak normally, press Record, stop the clip, then use the playback controls to hear it.

Why can I see level but hear no playback?

Check your speakers or headphones, browser tab mute, and output device. The mic may be working even if playback output is muted.

Can I download the mic test recording?

Yes. After recording, use the download link. The file is generated locally by your browser.

What microphone playback format is used?

The browser chooses a supported recording format, such as WebM, MP4, or Ogg depending on platform support.

Is an online mic or webcam test safe and private?

Yes, when it runs locally. MicAndCam checks levels, preview, snapshots, and recordings in your browser and does not upload media.

Why does the browser ask for permission?

Browsers require permission before any page can use your mic or camera. MicAndCam asks only after your click and stops tracks when you leave.

Is my audio or video uploaded?

No. The meter, preview, snapshots, and recordings are created locally and are not uploaded.
