Microsoft Teams camera and microphone test

Teams problems often come from the selected device or Windows privacy settings. Test the browser path first, then match Teams settings.

Check Windows and browser access

On Windows, Teams and browsers can both be blocked by privacy switches. If MicAndCam cannot start the mic or camera, check Windows Settings > Privacy & security for Microphone and Camera, then reset the browser site permission.

Once the mic meter, webcam preview, and speaker tone work, you know the device is reachable outside Teams.

Match Teams device settings

Open Teams settings and check Devices. Choose the same microphone, camera, and speaker or headset you just tested. If you use Bluetooth, confirm both the speaker and microphone routes because Teams may choose a headset profile.

Use the MicAndCam speaker phase and left/right checks if headphones sound hollow, reversed, or much quieter on one side.

Stop tests before the call

Stop the MicAndCam camera and microphone tests before joining Teams. That frees the device for the app and avoids a conflict where one app holds the camera while the other shows a black preview.

FAQ

Why does Teams choose the wrong microphone?

Teams has its own device list. Choose the same microphone that moved the MicAndCam meter, then run the Teams app test if available.

Is an online mic or webcam test safe and private?

It can be when the tool runs locally. MicAndCam analyzes microphone levels, camera preview, snapshots, and recordings in your browser and does not upload media. You can verify this with the live counter or your browser's Network panel.
